Inspired by. . . Our DJ Rocks

I'd like to introduce a new feature to the At Last Weddings blog called "Inspired by..." which will include various vendor spotlights throughout Central Florida. Make sure you check out each of these service providers in order to enhance your wedding day even more.

First up is Our DJ Rocks, run by the fabulous Kristin Hubbard. I absolutely love her slogan "A woman owned DJ company, that has been in your shoes. Bright pink shoes of course!" How perfect is that? Kristin truly knows how to entertain a crowd + get everyone to their feet. Here is some more info on Our DJ Rocks so you can truly get to know Kristin + what she has to offer.

Tell me about your company.
Our DJ Rocks is one of the few woman owned DJ companies based in Orlando, Florida. We have build a reputation by putting brides first in everything they do. The company has a personal touch never subcontracting out to other Djs or apprentices. Our DJ Rocks is trained by the Florida Academy of Mobile Entertainment, the only school of its kind in the entire Southeast and one of only two schools recognized by the National Association of Mobile Entertainers. I have been exceeding client's expectations with immaculate communication and articulation, directing the flow of special events and weddings for more than eight years, and continue to rock every occasion.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?
I've always been an avid believer in loving what you do, because more of your time will be spent working then spent with family. While I was working on my Advertising degree from the University of Central Florida, DJing came into my life. My career as a DJ began with Fun Factory Entertainment where I learned the delicate ropes of pelasing brides and their guests. In 2005, I was certified and became a member of the F.A.M.E.Disc Jockey Training School, one of only two schools recognized by the National Association of Mobile Entertainers, by which I am a member.

What sets you apart from your competition?
I am one of the very few woman owned DJ companies in Central Florida. You could literally count them on I'd say 3 fingers. Operated by me (DJ Kristin) a 20-something, young, energetic, personable, hip- just a DJ at hear- woman. My brides want a DJ that they can relate to, who understand their vision, is not the stereotypical cheesy DJ and to be honest, a DJ who is willing to implement their vision at any stake. Our DJ Rocks is founded on personal touch, as we do not subcontract or hire apprentices and it's almost impossible to find that. I deliver exactly what I promise to each of my brides.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
Oh Wow! What a question... well, I still get chills with every wedding I do. There's just something about that very moment when the music stars, the bride takes that first step towards the man of her dream. And as each guest turns around just to see how beautiful she is. It's the smile of her grooms face when he gets that feeling of being the luckiest man in the world. It's a rush of excitement I get when the announcement is made introducing the bride and groom for the very first time as husband and wife. There's something magical about the way his eyes fill up with love as he looks at you during her first dance. There's a feeling of joy and pride during the parent dances. There's just a unique kind of love in the air at weddings, and even I get teary eyed. It's like my eyes are glued to the TV screen as I was The Notebook, only it's your love story unfolding. Oh and the toasts and the father daughter dance? Forget about it. I will continue to re-live even my own wedding (Coming 2011) over and over again with each wedding that I do.

Other than a DJ, what is the one service or product brides should not get married without?
Oh let the list begin! Wedding Coordinators, Photography, Videography, Caterer... Each of your wedding vendors is like a puzzle piece and without one, the puzzle is not complete. Your DJ is the puzzle piece that brings that energy to the room to fill a dance floor and MCs the event to ensure a smooth transition. Without a photographer- who is going to capture each of those memories so you can share them with your grandkids? And what about a videographer? Wouldn't you just love to see your Grandma and Grandpa's first dance on film when they got married? And what about all of the day of wedding antics and everything leading up to the big day? You want ot enjoy every single bit of your wedding day, because you will only do it once and trust me when I say the day will fly by so quickly you will wonder where it went. Woulnd't it be nice to have someone take care of everything for you? Ba-da-bing- that's where you're wedding coordinator comes in.

What is the craziest request you have received from a bride?
Hmm... the craziest request? I once had a bride tell me she didn't want any ghetto music but then specifically requested artists like Akon, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne! It's the little things that make me laugh!

In your opinion, what is the most fabulous trend with weddings right now?
The Morning Of Wedding Playlist: Create a playlist on your iPod called "Morning of Wedding Playlist" and fill it with songs to listen to the morning of your wedding-- you know, while you're excitedly getting and hair and makeup done!I also love when brides get creative and incorporate music into the theme of their wedding. For example, if you're wedding theme is a country couture (Coming to DJ Kristin's wedding at some point in 2011) add in classic country songs during dinner like, "Forever and ever, Amen" by Randy Travis.I also love the grey and yellow wedding color trend.

Any special advice to brides when hiring a DJ?
If I could offer one piece of special advice to brides when hiring a DJ, it would be to make sure you mesh well and who you feel comfortable with. You know, it's funny because by the time I get off the phone with my brides, I feel like we are best friends. It's all about building the relationship and feeling comfortable with the person you are hiring on your wedding day. You wouldn't just open up your guest list to just anyone, so why not apply that same rule when hiring your wedding DJ?
